Over the last three years I have lead a teams of students addressing particular issues for a companies or institutions via sponsored studio projects. A sampling of these projects are included below.
RE-ENVISIONING THE NORTH CAROLINA MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCES’S ACRO EXHIBITION AS AN AUTISM FRIENDLY SPACE
Client: North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
Project Brief: Develop an assistive tool to transform the central dinosaur exhibition at the museum into an autism-friendly experience. This new assistive tool (phone, tablet-based, physical artifact or other embedded technology) should customize the exhibition to better serve the needs of young adults on the Autism spectrum

BAG OF BEACONS PROJECT
Client: SAS Analytics
Project Length: 2 Weeks
Project Brief: Create a user experience that utilizes an iOS application to enable a blind individual to deploy iBeacons in a new environment with minimal sighted assistance.
Work by Student Teams

Facilities Scenario: The facilities manager of Brooks Hill wants to install beacons throughout the building. These beacons will provide general guidance to students like Kaylie as they move about the building.

Emergency Scenario C: As Kaylie sits in her biochem class, the fire alarm goes off in the building. Students all around her rush for the door. She can smell the smoke and feel heat. The fire is nearby. Kaylie immediately accesses her beacon system to come to her aid.

Easter Egg Scenario D: Kaylie’s friend told her about some Easter Eggs (hidden content or functionality) embedded into the existing iBeacon system on campus. This hidden content/functionality would allow her to experience the campus in a whole new way.


PROJECT CALYPSO
Client: SAS Analytics
Project Length: 9 Weeks
Project Brief: Design the user experience of a brand new intelligent and self-learning data management system that automatically: discovers relevant and useful data sources and data quality issues among a pool of data sources, alerts users of these issues, makes recommendations for how to address the issues and learns to improve the quality of the alerts and recommendations based on user behavior.

RETHINKING THE UNBOXING PROCESS
Client: Sealed Air
Project Length: 9 Weeks
Project Brief: Design new beauty market-specific secondary packaging that enhances the unboxing experience. Embrace today’s digital transformation, while engaging with the tactile functionality of protective packaging.
